Festival

FRACTO will be held between May 22-25 at ACUD Kunsthaus Berlin Mitte.

The festival will focus on the Hungarian artist Dóra Maurer. We will discover her films in a two-night screening program presented along with the contemporary international film selection.

Dóra Maurer is a fascinating figure in the Hungarian art scene, known for her innovative approach and commitment to exploring the intersections of various mediums. Her work, deeply rooted in the context of a vibrant independent community, reflects a rich tapestry of artistic collaboration and resistance during the socialist period in Hungary. By pushing the boundaries of graphic art in the 1950s and later venturing into photography, experimental cinema, and installations, Maurer has continuously challenged traditional notions of art. Her focus on themes like movement, displacement, perception, and transformation resonates throughout her diverse body of work. Her collaborative spirit, particularly with musicians, and her role as an educator and curator demonstrate her dedication to fostering creative dialogue and experimentation. Maurer's ability to navigate and synthesise different artistic forms has established her as a unique and influential voice in contemporary art, one that remains ever-evolving and engaged with the world around her. Themes of movement, displacement, perception, and transformation have consistently woven through Maurer's work. Unconfined by a single medium, Maurer's creativity remains dynamic and ever-evolving.

FRACTO is an annual film festival taking place in Berlin since 2017 that promotes the recognition and relevance of avant-garde and experimental film practices.
The festival is a project of the non-profit association FRACTO e.V.
