Heimat suchen, finden, verlieren, wiederfinden. Was macht einen Ort zur Heimat? Heimat kann vieles sein: ein Ort, eine Bewegung, eine Person. Und sie kann auch schmerzlich sein. Wie stellen wir uns einer grausamen Vergangenheit, die in der Heimat ruht? Und wie entgleitet sie uns durch gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen wie Gentrifizierung? Können wir in die verlorene Heimat zurückkehren? Mit Worten, mit der eigenen Geschichtsschreibung und wenn ja, was erwartet uns dort?

We search for something to call home, perhaps finding it, losing it, finding it again. What makes a place a home? Home can be so many things: a place, a movement, a person. And home can hurt as well. How do we face a horrific past that haunts the place we once called home? And how can home escape our grasp, evade us in the wake of societal developments such as gentrification? Can we return to our lost homeland – with the aid of words, writing our own histories – and if so, what awaits us there?

Vier Jahrzehnte DIY, Punk und purer Wahnsinn – INTERFILM ist zurück und feiert: Körper! In einer Welt, die Körper normiert und wie Ware behandelt, reclaimen wir sie. Jede Falte, jeder Move, alles Unperfekte ist einzigartig und schreibt eigene Geschichten. Wie ein Körper hat auch unser Festival Transformationen durchlebt – gewachsen, gedehnt, wieder zusammengefunden, immer im Fluss und bereit für Neues. Wie Zellen versorgen wir euch mit handverlesenen Filmen – lebendig, divers und fern jeder Monotonie.
Zum 40. Jubiläum erinnern wir uns auch zurück an unsere Anfänge: Berlin in den 80ern – eine Stadt voller Wut, Tatendrang und Widerstand. Rebellische Körper auf dem Super 8 Film wurden beliebt unter DIY-Künstler*innen, die ihre Geschichten in Clubs, Cafés und an der Mauer erzählten. „Dilettanten waren wir alle, genial haben sie uns genannt.”
Geboren aus Straßenkämpfen, wilden Mode-Shows und rebellischen Projektionen, wurde INTERFILM zur Plattform für alles, was sich widersetzt.

Plot: Welcome to the 40th INTERFILM Festival! Four decades of DIY, punk and absolute madness – INTERFILM is back and celebrating: Bodies! In a world that unceasingly subjects bodies to norms and treats them like commodities, we are reclaiming them. Every wrinkle, every gesture, every imperfection is unique and writes its own (hi)stories. Like bodies, our festival has also gone through transformations of its own – it's grown, stretched, regrouped, while remaining fluid and hungry for the new. To you, our cells as it were, we provide handpicked films – vibrant, diverse and the furthest thing from monotonous. For our 40th anniversary we are not only putting a focus on Embodiment but are also looking back at our beginnings: Berlin in the 1980s - a city full of anger, thirst for action and resistances. Rebellious bodies on Super 8 film had become beloved among DIY artist, who told their stories in clubs, cafés and upon the Wall. "We were all dilettants, they called us ingenious." Born out of street fights, wild fashion shows and rebellious projections, INTERFILM became a platform for everything that dares to resist. Come and experience the energy! Our screens will turn to skin, upon which all that is raw, imperfect and alive can be seen!
